Booking meetings and, you know, sending invites, it's aboutthis idea of managing my executives most valuable asset, which is

And that'scalled the ideal week calendar. And I first heard about it from Michael Hyattwho heard of it through a couple of other people. Um, but we'll, we'll get tothat here in just a second. So to recap, key number one was tracking your time.So you took a good audit. Uh, you've got some real data.

Tracking yourtime ongoing so that you really can look at the data objectively and say, thisis where I'm spending my time. And key number two was bucket your time. Soyou've bucketed your time. So again, key number three isschedule your time. We cannot sit back and let other people dictate how wespend our time.

Now. For some ofus. Yeah, sure. At work, there are certain things that we don't have a say in,but you'd be surprised at how many things you do have a say in when it comes toyour calendar. You'd be surprised at how often you can say no to something. Andwe'll talk about that as a teaser. I'll talk about that in episode four, but.

The idea withscheduling your time, managing your calendar is that it's your time. It's yourcalendar. You can manipulate it. You can set it up in such a way that allowsyou to be more productive, reclaim your energy and. Really manage your time,the way you need to, and the way you want to. So what we're going to talk aboutis the ideal week.

So the idea, um,and some people called us time-blocking or. You know, segmenting, um, or to goback to key to bucketing your time, um, actually on the calendar. So you couldtake, um, and whatever you want to call it, whether it's bucketing, segmentingtime-blocking, whatever, now that you have those segments, those buckets, um,in your audit of the time that you spend and the tasks that you do now, youkind of have an idea.

The question now is when and where should I put these things onmy calendar? So. The general concept of an ideal week is you sit down and yougo day by day, hour by hour.

So you want togo through your days and you want to say, all right, do meetings energize me inthe morning or do they train me?

Don't do thingsin the morning that drain you because by lunchtime you're, you're going to havedecision fatigue. You're not going to have any energy to do challenging, um, projects.So again, what, now that you know what you're spending your time on. And whattrains you and what energizes you let's figure out where and when to put thosethings on your counter.

Now, most peoplehave more focus and energy in the morning. Um, there are a lot of studies thatshow that we're clear clear-minded, um, energetic in the morning, but some,some people are night owls and they like to do creative work. Late at nightwhen everybody else is asleep and they've kind of decompress for the day,figure out what it is for you.

So hetypically does not like to have meetings in the morning. He likes to have kindof uninterrupted. Focus time in the mornings. So what I'll do is I'll block offTuesday and Thursday mornings as focused block time.

Um, so again, what I'll do is I'll set those focus blocks up, butthen in the afternoons, I might have meetings because he's an extrovert.

People energizedhim, but after four or five meetings in a row, he's pretty wiped. So he's notgoing to be, you know, Maybe had as much focus to review a, um, investor updateletter. So figure out what is that, that you enjoy again, the it's called anideal week for a reason. So go dream big in this, uh, exercise and don't letthings was like, Oh, well, you know, I have to meet with my boss on Mondaymornings, but I'd rather have focused time on Monday mornings as well.

Don't let thatstop you from putting money mornings as focused time. Maybe you can talk toyour boss and change the schedule up a little bit. Um, you know, maybe yeah. Ihave to pick up kids from daycare at certain times. So you just shifted aroundagain. The idea is that start dream big and start with the perfect idea weekin, honestly, if this includes, Oh, I go for a 20 mile bike ride on Mondays.

So go through hour by hour, do it on the weekends too. Iliterally put in things like hanging out with kids, watch a movie, family,dinner nap, um, prayer, meditation workout.

So pull, pull things from those buckets and put them together in a waythat looks exciting to you.

All right. Onceyou go in and go big and dream big and figure that out. Then you may have tocome back to reality and you may not be able to just rip the bandaid off onyour current system and go straight full on into your perfect ideal week. Youmay have to take baby steps. You may have to. Do small incremental improvementsover time.

Maybe you have a two houruninterrupted focus block every Wednesday morning, and that's all you can doright now. That's fine. You've got to start with something even a little tweakto your calendar, like that can make a huge, huge difference.

Um, over time, maybe that I can shift to that, or maybe I onlyhave meetings in the afternoons and I never have meetings in the morning.

So get creativeagain. Think through when you're most. Creative. And when you're most energeticand plop in those important energizing tasks in those times, so that you kindof feel are always filling your bucket up and staying energized. Now, anotherkey is as you kind of move and shift more toward your ideal week, You're goingto have life stage changes.

Yourealize that you actually like meetings in the mornings better in theafternoon, whatever it is. That's fine. So work to get to that ideal week, butrevisit your rhythms on a regular basis.

So. One of thekeys to kind of maintaining this ideal week and having a sustainable, um,long-term schedule is, and where you're not burning out is to regularly revisityour rhythms. So maybe after a couple of months you realized that you reallylike checking email in the afternoon and you really, it really just drains youin.

Creates moredecision fatigue in the morning and decision fatigue, by the way, if you don'tknow what this is, uh, it's this concept and this study and the scientific ideathat like, even if you have to make a bunch of little easy decisions, uh,throughout the day, Your going to get fatigued. And so then when you have tomake a bigger decision, you're not gonna, we'll be able to, or it's going to bevery challenging for you too, because you've worn yourself out, making allthese little decisions.

So that's, youknow, to apply that to the ideal week, there are times when you need toschedule, you have to make a big decision. And so you want to schedule those inthe morning before you. Succumb to decision fatigue by the end of the day. Soagain, block out, take those blocks and those buckets of time or thoseactivities in those different buckets, put them in different time, blocks onyour calendar.

And thenumber one way that I've seen people burn out is when they just passively letpeople dictate how they spend their time instead of proactively managing
